Moenkhausia pitteri

A good community fish similar to the White tetra except it has more color. This tetra shines like a diamond. They like soft peat filtered water with subdued lighting.

What are diamonds made of? How are they related to volcanism?  What are indicator minerals?

Silvery scales with orange accents. The eye has a red spot on top. The dorsal fin of the male is long and flowing.

Care and feeding:
Since they are ominvorous these fish will generally eat all kinds of live fresh and flake foods. To keep a good balance give them a high quality flake food everyday. Feed brine shrimp (either live or frozen) or blood worms as a treat.

Distribution:
These fish are found in Lake Valencia, Rio Bue, Rio Tiquiriti, Venezuela.

Size - Weight:
These fish get up to 2.5 inches (6 cm).

Social Behaviors:
They are generally a good community fish.

Sexual Differences:
The male has a much longer pointed dorsal fin.

Water Region: Top, Middle, Bottom:
These fish will swim in all areas of the aquarium.

Acceptable Water Conditions:
Hardness: to 15° dGH
Ph: 5.5 to 7.5
Temp: (72-82° F) 26-28° C

Breeding/Reproduction:
Recommended conditions: less than 4° dGH. Start with a dark tank and gradually increase the light leverl to induce spawning.
